Description
A double bolt of lightning strikes Navarre Beach at 10:15 PM on Santa Rosa Sound along the Emerald Coast panhandle of Florida's Northwest coast on 16 May 2012. Since it was a rainy day, I chose this lightning shot as my "sunset" for the best shot of the day for my 366 Navarre Beach Sunrise and Sunset Wallpaper CD.
In 2011-2012 I took a sunrise or sunset series of photos every day for a year to create a unique 366-Photo Navarre Beach Sunrise and Sunset Wallpaper CD which I am selling for $20 each (including shipping) while giving $1 of each sale to the Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary/Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center. Over the course of the year, viewers can watch the sun transverse the horizon along Northwest Florida's Emerald Coast and the 2010 Best Restored Beach. Navarre Beach is not overly developed like the neighboring commercialized beaches of Destin, Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola Beach. Peace, quiet, nature and white sand take vacationers to a whole new level of relaxation. In all my world travels, including living on the beaches of Hawaii, Japan and Virginia Beach, in my opinion Navarre Beach on Santa Rosa Sound has the best beach sand and sunrises/sunsets in the world! I hope this special FAA gallery inspires more visitors to discover the natural beauty of this area.

This can be dangeous work...I'll leave these subjects to others! :))))
Jeff at JSJ Photography replied:
I shot this from across the Santa Rosa Sound so it was about 3 miles to the Navarre Beach Island in the foreground and even further to the lighting event. I'm usually shooting from under an overhead cover, but in this case I think you are right--I was exposed out on the dock. ~Jeff at JSJ Photography

Your a brave young man Jeff. I used to shoot lightning.....key words ,"used to," I had an incident that scared the **** out of me. Your shot is beautiful though.....well done! Fav
Jeff at JSJ Photography replied:
Thank you VERY MUCH Stuart for the compliment and the FAVE. You are correct--taking lightning shots can be dangerous! I now have a "Lightning Bug" which detects the changes in ionization so it can auto-release the shutter for me...at a safer distance for the photographer--preferably indoors! ~Jeff at JSJ Photography
