Description
WINE PORN: Old Wines Never Die
Six vintage bottles of Chianti Classico Riserva Red Wine of Badia a Coltibuono Vineyard in Tuscany, (Toscana) Italy. There are two bottles from 1970 and one each from 1975, 1977 and 2006. This photo was taken in the basement wine cellar where the temperature and humidity is naturally maintained to preserve the wine as evidenced by the mold-covered concrete stucco. This vineyard also had a "wine library" containing wines made in the late 1700's--located behind steel bars and tight security. We were told that there are 6 bottles from the 1700's remaining, split among several "owners" but one bottle sold at auction to a Canadian businessman in 2009 for $38,000 for one bottle! "Chianti Classico" should not be confused with "Chianti" which is from a different region which is influenced by the Italian mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. I definitely prefer Chianti Classico over Chianti for the boldness of the taste on the pallet--and I can now tell the difference between the two just by sipping and smelling! Also, do not worry about getting cork residue in your vintage wine--the technique uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the glass and the Sommelier can just crack the top of the bottle off with the cork in it!

Please excuse me but I think the technique for opening the bottles is the most interesting part. (I greatly prefer wine that I can afford. That may be why I don't drink much wine.) l, f, WHAT?

Thank you very much Christine Burdine! My wife Jenny actually came up with the title--but I thought it was fitting! Only available in Toscana, Italy! Now I can combine two of my favorite hobbies: wine and photos! Thanks for creating an FAA group where I can do both at the same time! ~Jeff at JSJ Photography
