Description
A BIG THANK YOU to the buyer from Santa Rosa Beach, Florida for purchasing this photo on 03/31/2013!
Replicas of the Christopher Columbus Nina and Pinta (I think this is the Nina...but I'm not really sure) sailed by at sunset on 7 January 2012 on Santa Rosa Sound along the Emerald Coast of Northwest, Florida. The 3-masted wooden sailing ships had their beginnings in 1986 when the Columbus Foundation formed in the British Virgin Islands in an effort to build the vessels that Columbus used on his first voyage, the Santa Maria, Nina and Pinta. The most historically accurate replica of the Nina was built in Valenca, Brazil, by master shipbuilders who only used hand tools. It was finished in 1991. The Pinta was also constructed in Brazil and was finished in 2005. The Nina and Pinta replicas are based in Homeport Marina, which is located near the Alabama Highway 59 bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Gulf Shores, AL.
